Some homeowners policies provide limited watercraft protection, often with restrictions on boat size, horsepower and use. Review your policy before relying on it. A separate boat policy may provide options better suited to your vessel.
Agreed value generally uses a value established when the policy is issued for a covered total loss, subject to policy terms. Actual cash value generally considers depreciation. Partial losses, deductibles and valuation provisions can differ.
Coverage options may be available for pontoons, tritoons, wake boats, fishing boats, cruisers, yachts and personal watercraft. Eligibility depends on the vessel, operator, location and how the watercraft is used.
These protections may be included, optional or limited, depending on the policy. Ask about on-water towing, salvage, wreck removal and trailer coverage separately so you understand the limits and conditions.
Start with your boat’s year, make, model, approximate value, engine details, storage location and normal use. Current insurance details and operator information can help with a more complete comparison. Avoid sending sensitive identification numbers by email.
